Hundreds of people gathered on August 30th to express objections to the further mining in the Turów open pit mine. The participants of a peaceful international protest were residents of nearby towns, representatives of non-governmental organizations, activists, local government officials, MPs and MEPs
People have basic rights to fresh air, clean water and a safe climate. When these rights are not enforced, we must defend them against the greed of the company and the policy of exploitation! This is why the Czechs, Poles and Germans protested side by side against the destructive environmental impact of opencast mines.
As a sign of solidarity, we have created a human chain across the borders of 3 countries. This was also a symbol of support for the German movement for the protection of villages, which are threatened to be demolished for the construction of new openings. We were kayaking along the Neisse River the one which the Turów opencast mine is reflected.
